There once lived a bird who was eager to learn
A sweet little thing who would chirp and then turn
Its beak to the sky, watching his brothers
Flying with ease, with all the others.
1
One day he saw a girl, all dressed in white.
Walking with her mum with a smile so bright
The bird felt the urge to say hello
But the words wouldn't come, to his sorrow.
2
Desperate to learn, he flew all around
Searching for ways to make the right sound.
He asked a wise owl, who winked with a smile,
"There’s nothing like reading, but it will take you a while!"
3
In the library, he found books galore
In the English section, there were even more.
The books had stories, and simple phrases,
All very helpful, but so many pages!
4
Filled with excitement, and ready to read,
The bird practiced speaking, he was sure he'd succeed.
Walking around, books held in his wings,
He learnt about so many things.
5
One day, he flew to show his friends
His new found skill, and make amends
For being away, but what an affront,
Their little heads tilted in pure puzzlement.
6
But the little girl heard, and she listened and smiled,
She replied to the bird in a voice so mild,
The bird practiced more, taking real care,
And soon, he could say it anywhere.
7
The bird chirped, "Hello" to the kids in the park,
They were amazed as he sang like a lark.
The bird was so happy, his heart so bright,
His next challenge would be to learn how to write.
