Beep beep went the clock.
“Oh no!” said Elle. “I’m late for my first day!”
In the background, I heard my mom say, “Don’t forget your socks today!” Said Mom
1
I chose my shirt and my fun outfit,
But was scared the kids might not get it.
“What if they don’t see the real me?
What if they don’t like who I want to be?”
2
I went downstairs for breakfast,
Where Mom had made a nice treat.
“Who’s ready for pancakes, bacon, and eggs?” Yummy!” I said,it smelled so sweet!
3
Mom said, “Don’t forget your dish!”
I put on my backpack with a nervous wish.
I’m really going to school and my stomach’s in a spin,
What will the day bring? Where will I fit in?
4
Mom drove me in her shiny red car,
And soon I saw the bright yellow school star.
5
School started with the pledge and morning meeting,
Then we learned about our assigned seating.
6
At lunch, I had a yummy meal,
And heard everyone munch with a crunch and a squeal.
7
Back in class, we did a fun craft,
But someone stole my glue and that made me mad!
The teacher helped and made it okay,
So I could finish my work and smile at the day.
8
RING RING RING!
“What was that?” said Elle.
“The school day is over!” said the teacher
9
At home, Mom asked, “How do you feel?”
I smiled and said, “Can I go again tomorrow?”
School was fun but now I need rest,
Elle curled up, feeling her best.
