THE GREEDY KING

The King of Borathia loved one thing more than life itself: wealth. He was willing to do anything to acquire it, no matter the cost. The King was especially fond of creating laws and regulations that benefited himself, but at the expense of his people. He taxed them for their hard earned gold and silver, diverting much of it into his own pocket.

The King's latest policy was to impoverish the people of Borathia. He was proud of being able to think of such an ingenious plan, and he believed it would make him even wealthier than before. The King had the city walls covered in propaganda that encouraged people to give away their wealth to him. He spread the message that their lives would be so much better if they just obeyed him.
2

The King quickly got to work on creating legislation to give himself control over the wealth of the people. He wanted to ensure that no one could take advantage of the system and become too rich. He held meetings with his advisors to devise ways to limit the flow of gold and silver in and out of the country. He was determined to make sure that all the resources of the country were firmly under his control.
3

The King's plan was a grand success. He managed to pass laws and regulations that slowly drained the people of their wealth. Soon, the entire country was plunged into poverty. The people of Borathia were desperate and desperate people are easily manipulated. The King used this to his advantage, making sure that all of the benefits of being a ruler of the country were solely his.

But, the King was not satisfied. He wanted more and he wanted it now. He wanted the people of Borathia to be completely subservient to him and his rule. He devised a new plan to make sure that no one could ever defy him without penalty. He set up a system of spies and informants that would report any acts of defiance to him.

The King's plan worked. No one dared to oppose him. He was richer and more powerful than ever before. But, there was something missing. He wanted more than just gold and silver; he wanted the people of Borathia to be completely subservient to his rule. The King's advisors suggested a plan that would make the people so desperate that they would do anything for him. He decided to take their advice and enacted a law that would take away all of the resources from the people of Borathia.
6

The King's new law was a success. The people of Borathia were so desperate for food, shelter, and other resources that they had no choice but to obey his every order. The King was pleased with himself; his plan had worked. He declared himself the most powerful ruler in the land and he made sure that everyone knew it. He became more and more greedy, taking from the people of Borathia at every turn.
7

The King was so focused on his own greed and power that he failed to see the suffering of the people of Borathia. He continued to take whatever he could, without regard for the well-being of the people. The people of Borathia had no choice but to obey the King, but they did not forget. They would never forget the suffering they endured at the hands of the King and they vowed to one day rise up and take back what was rightfully theirs.
